Black Art 5.1, 24 yo @ 48.4%, not yet released.

Nose: Musky, stewed dark fruits, some faint burnt toast notes, polished wood.
Palate: Creamy, apricots, toffee, orange peel, buckwheat honey, salt and bright.
Finish: More viscous than the 4.1. Lasts with some balancing wood spice
Rank: 1st
Overall: Much less red wine influenced than the 4.1. Many won’t like this as much as it’s less “experimental” and more in line with what you’d expect from a typical older sherried whisky, but it was right up my alley. Very enjoyable, but a profile you can find in many other whiskies. This is not the weird wine driven malts of the 2nd and 3rd version. This was 100% a Adam Hannett (new head distiller) barrel selection – with no input from Jim McEwan. Jim apparently showed Adam the recipe for the previous release, and said “do with it what you will”.

The newest Black Art 5 is a 24 year old expression. The spirit was distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2016. It is non-chilled filtered and comes with 48.4% ABV without any coloring additives. It will available with a price tag of £265.

Konnte den am Freitag probieren. Für mich ein feiner Tropfen, mit deutlichen Weinnoten, jedoch für den ausgewiesenen Preis nicht gut genug.
